Re: 1962 40 hp lark lower unit issues

The 40 and 50 lower units are completly different if I am not mistaken.
The '67 evinrude 40 hp has the same style lower unit (compatible exactly?)

Electric shift are difficult to depend on. Difficult to repair.

Would you be inclined to change over to manual shift?

Require, I think an almost complete change of parts from power head down.

Requires a different hand control but your old electric shift one can sell for $200+ on ebay

yes i've come to notice that the bad part is the 67 i was looking at ended up sold befor i could get enough info now left with choices of the others the 64 75 hp is the cheeper of the two and closer, i have thought about changing to manual shift but worried the cost will be just as much as the repair on the electric shift,

mine the wireing is rotted and tore apart,

starting to think would be better off just finding a newer used moter and junking this old one

Man you gotta get plugged in to the Tejas Craigslist...saw a 57 Johnson 35 with controls/cables/electrical harness yesterday on the Austin page for $250.

Your Lark fits that hard to find parts description cause it's selectric shift. I'll take pre-72 or pre-68 outboards any day over the later stuff. I like to be able to get back to the dock with a simple fix.
