Hello

Hopefully I’m in the right place for this. I have a 1962 5hp Sea King that needs a water pump replaced. Do I need to remove the power head to drop the lower unit to get to the water pump? I saw a video where the lower unit was dropped a few inches and then had bolts removed from the shift shaft to drop it off the rest of the way. I took those 4 bolts off the lower unit and dropped it an inch or so but this motor does not have that shift shaft connecter like I saw in the video. Any suggestions?

Thx

Try to get some pics.
I think this engine is a OMC (Johnson/Evinrude) engine.
The old Johnson/Evinrude smal engines (5-10Hp) you have to pull the power head to drop the LU.

I got that lower unit off and removed the impeller. Can I use an impeller from a 1958 5.5hp Johnson? I have one and it looks similar to the one I removed.

Yes I think it will fit.
But as this engine is a OMC engine move this thread to the Johnson/Evinrude forum.
You will get better answers there.
