Hello All, Once again I could not help myself and bought this motor, I have a problem, and I'm willing to admit that. The guy sold it to me, controls and all for $250, I have not tested anything, he said it ran, and I believe him, so far so good.

I'm looking for any advise on this motor whatsoever, It's on a stand now, and I have done nothing so far. Is this a 24:1 fuel motor? What gear oil should I use? Any other advise is much appreciated, thank you!

The gear oil is to be TYPE-C outboard gear oil.--Now also called " premium blend " at the BRP dealer.----OMC started to go 50:1 in 1964 on these motors.-----If you look up the internal parts in the books you will not find much difference between a 1962 and a 1965 model of that motor.--A good rugged motor and easy to work on.---Any pictures of controls and the big junction box ?

That is not the original voltage regulator, nor the original starter solenoid in picture #2..Could make troubleshooting interesting if it doesn't work.

EDIT: Oops, I just also looked at #1. That is not the correct shift switch either. The correct one is outrageously expensive and hard to find. What you have there can be dangerous. Please be very, very careful. Also, there are two look-alike shift switches, and they are not interchangeable. In fact, the wrong type can instantly destroy your lower unit. Your motor has Electric Shift, not to be confused with Hydro-Electric shift.

Found a working control switch box, cheap, but I think I should test compression before spending more money on what could be a parts motor. I'll update soon. Thank you for the information, big difference between what I have and what's supposed to be there.

Is that the correct serial number?

My 1963 75hp Starflite serial number is 75383E. I would have guessed that yours should be 752XXX. Perhaps the numbering convention changed from 1962 to 1963?
