I just picked this up and have all the controls

My question can some one show me a wiring diagram, I dont want to buy a manual untill i can tell if this motor is worth working on.

There are a power and ground cable going to the "electrical box", but there is a separate power and ground cable inside the same harness.

Well I put the power and ground that go direct to the engine, and the engine spun (turned over)

Well I want to hook up the controls and put it in the tank and hook up fuel and see if I can get it started, but I'm not sure about how to hook it up.

I have never seen a motor with a separate electrical box

So what do I hook up to the battery and when I do get it hooked up, which wire can i jump to start it(dont have a ignition switch yet)

The power head looks great, and also how do you get it neutral to test for spark)

Thanks

Rich

It is an electric shift. It is always in neutral unless you put it in gear (electrically). Messing around with that without knowing what you are doing could result in disasterous damage.

It is automotive battery ignition. If you understand old cars, you know how to hot wire the ignition.

So tell me, if I give you the wiring diagram, do you know how to use it?

yes I would know how to read it. I have worked on out boards before but nothing this old.

If I can get it up and running I am going to put it on the water:)

well I looked over the wiring diagram and everything is hooked up except the ignition switch.

I put power direct to the battery from the 2 power cables that come off the block and it spins the motor.

I guess I am over my head on this one

I'm a bit confused. Are you saying that the starter motor spins the flywheel, i.e., the crankshaft is rotating, but the engine will not start?

yes the started turns the flywheel and cranks over if I put power direct to the starter.

I don't see any spark when I crank it over, and also I am not sure i have the wiring hooked up correct. Is there a way to check to see if the engine is worth working on?

Hello everyone, I have also recently aquired one of these engines and am looking to restore it. As far as I know, the engine is in good condition, but has not been started for a few years, so I anticipate needing some carbeurator work. I'm trying to find a service manual in pdf format but have had no luck. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

pocahontas, please start a new thread with your inquiries. Nobody will see it when it is buried in another topic.

Mideerslayer, go pick up an ignition switch at any auto parts dealer or Tractor Supply. You will need "B", "S", and "I" on the switch. They are cheap. Hook up the wires to the switch per the wiring diagram that you have. Use the gauge and color identification given on the diagram. Let us know.
