I just posted this in a reply to a restore forum thread... I'm in such shock, I felt the need to repost and see what ya'll thought about it.

I scoped this out today on my local craigslist:

"1962 17' Starcraft boat. This boat has a 75hp Evinrude motor with original plugs. A few things about this boat: Cigarette liter never used, the emergency rope was never removed, it has the original trailer and book to the trailer. The boat has been used maybe 10 times and is like new. Asking $11,500 OBO or may be interested in partial trade."

Would anyone in their right mind pay that much for that boat? Some of these CL posts crack me up.. people think they're sitting on goldmines.

Wait until a few more people on iboats put in their 2 cents worth on what that boat should really sell for, then email the guy a link to this thread.

I'm wondering about internal corrosion in the engine because of so little use (unless it was properly prepped for long term storage, but the ad doesn't make it sound like that's the case).

Right? A 47 year old boat that HAS NEVER BEEN SERVICED!!! Them spark plugs must be antiques!

How much of a selling point is it that the cig lighter has never been used? It probably can't be used cuz the battery's original! lol

Does anyone know an original list price of such a boat and model?

my neighbor bought the same boat here in texas for $300 -he said the older man/ owner was in tears as he drove it away. The boat was in great/unused shape.

Very cool looking boat, but it is not worth a second mortgage on my house for it!

That's really cool, and I'd love to own that, as it would be a real head turner. But really, let's say it literally looks like it was just built yesterday..you'd get possibly $3G for it around here.
