My evinrude 18 hp wasn't reaching full wot,I stripped out the vertical shaft from the helical gear to the pickup arm on the underside of the flywheel.
the connection is a tube with parallel slots in it,(attached to the bottom helical gear.)The pickup is a piece of 3/8" nylon bar with flats on both ends, one of the flats had broken off, this caused the slack to have to be taken up before it operated the graduated brass throttle ring under the flywheel. The roller on the carb pickup wasn't reaching it's full throttle position. The engine runs and starts well,When I had it out on the water for the first time it would not quite get my 14t boat on the plane.I suspected maybe it was the prop pitch and dia and bought a new 9"X9" prop.Looks like the culprit was the broken dog.
No worries, the other prop was showing it's age and 11" dia, this prop should get me up on the plane a lot quicker.Probably lower the topend speed and use more fuel,I'm not bothered about topend speed, just getting out there fishing.
