Does anyone know where I can find a set of replacement leaf valves for a 1963 18hp fastwin? Is there another year I can use that will fit? I can find them for a 1968 up just not for a 1963, every search I have done says no replacement available. Thanks

How do you know the reed valve set needs replacement? They seldom fail. If you really need it, see Top Secret File sticky fpr salvage yards. Easy to find.

Thanks not sure they need replaced yet. Just trying to locate all the parts I might need before I start taking the old girl apart. was getting ready to clean and rebuild the carb and just thought I would take a look at the leaf valves and see if they need replaced since I will already have the carb off. She ran good when I bought her but I'm not sure when she had a full service last. Figured I will clean and replace everything now.

Very unlikely reed valves will need to be replaced unless someone mucked with them and damaged the leaves.

Very unlikely, as said, that your reeds need replacing. I believe you could probably use the same reeds from almost all the 50's and 60's 18hp motors if you just wanted to replace them. They might need a slight cleaning, being careful not to bend them. The manifold has some hidden screws holding it on so be careful taking it off. If you warp it trying to pry it off you're in trouble.......one of those things sometimes better left alone. For a really reliable motor, a new plastic float, carb cleaning, impeller, points and coils and condensers check/cleaning, fuel lines, and lower unit seals usually makes for a darned reliable motor.
As for your choke wire, there's just one wire that feeds the choke since it grounds through the body.

Thats sounds like everything I have planed. I will just clean the leaf valves and call it a day. As far as the choke goes Where does the power sorce come from. I can't find a wire anywear.

Leaf valves are probably one of the most trouble free parts on the motor. I'll betcha they don't even need cleaning. The fuel constantly cleans them as it runs.

If anything damages leaf valves, it usually is somebody messing with them.
