1963 40 johson slips out of gear

i have a 1963 40hp johson outboard that goes out of gear when you give half thottle if you let off back to a quarter it will catch back in the linkage or gear shift doesnt move i think i may have hit bottom when problem started runs great otherwise thanks for any help mttriker

You may have a spun hub.There is a rubbuer bushing in the prop hub that sometimes wears out <br />a prop shop should be able to tell you and make the repair.
