Re: 1963 75 hp johnson piston rings

When restoring my old 90hp Johnson I got my pistons/rings from this place Stone & Sons Marine ,I think they got all the parts you want .<br /><br />Or you can try your local outboard shop , don't know about the rings but I think the bearing is available ( If it's the same as my 90hp it's #378251 needlebearing wrist pin )

Re: 1963 75 hp johnson piston rings

Your motor is a two-cycle. Two-cycle engines need good piston and ring seal to produce adequate power. If your cylinders are worn so are the rings and the ring grooves in the pistons. All of this stuff makes for bad piston seal and should be corrected with new bores, pistons and rings. Even if your bores and pistons are usable re-ringing with parts that may not be correct has a good chance of a poor result.

I understand that but thought maybe they would be the same bore and piston type on both motors, wasn't sure if there would be a difference

Don't know if those rings will fitt , but I would guess they do IF they are for a 3.375 bore .<br /><br />"ALL" Johnson/Evinrude V4 engines between 1960 - 1972 , 75hp to 100hp are using the same bore .<br /><br />Only difference was the 85hp in 1969/70/72 and 100hp 1971/72 ,they used a different stroke .<br /><br />But before you start working on this engine , messure the cylinder bore .<br />
If the bore is tappered, out of round, or worn more than 0.003" - 0.004" the cylinder should be rebored and ovesize piston and rings installed
Quote from Seloc manual. <br /><br />Good luck :)
