I've got a 63 evinrude 75hp outboard. I have no spark. I ran a jumper wire directly to the coil and still no spark. It has points and they all are clean. I believe the timing is close . Powder to the ignition but no fire. Help me out please.

Some of those motors were magneto, some were battery/coil ign. Do the spark plug wires exit to the side of the distributor cap or the bottom of the cap? Is the coil external or inside the distributor?

Plug wires exit bottom and coil is internal. Have power to points but no spark out got it to back fire once . The people I got it from had it for 3 years and no one could find out why no spark

Don't run any more jumper wires to that magneto. Will spark jump a 1/4 " open air gap off of the plug wires. If no, you could have a bad coil or a grounded out rotor in the dist cap.

Other likely troubles are cracked ign coil, The wire conecting the two sets of points can rub and ground or bad condenser. Inspect the ign coil. then ohm it out. It should be near a dead short on the primary winding and have hundreds of ohm resistance on secondary.
