On our 63 Johnson 40hp there are two handles on the throttle mechanism. the big one is the forward N Reverse etc but there is a smaller red one behind it that seems to control something in the starting. might be a choke or something but anyway ours broke and I need some information on where in the world to begin to find this part. Can someone suggest a website or some help

No big deal. It is the idle speed control lever. It is also used to give it a bit of throttle to start the motor without putting it in gear. The part number is 310700. About $15 from your local Johnson or Evinrude dealer. Or on-line from ishopmarine.com.
