I have a 28hp johnson seahorse 1963 that I wired up to be an electric start. this engine had impellor and all seals, gaskets replaced two years ago and has been sitting until yesterday. she starts up, smokes in neutral, but not in gear. runs solid, but bogs down a little bit-revs up and down when in high speed-<br />the top of the engine is cool, but the lower unit is very hot with paint showing scorch. would this be inadequate oil in the lower unit? i am not sure what its condition is or how much oil is down there. Is the bogging down issue likely fuel or carb problem? I will change out fresh 50:1 tomorrow to eliminate this problem.<br />someone also told me that an old plastic gas tank could send plastic garb up through the fuel line and cause it to bog. does that make sense too?<br /><br />thanks for your help!
