Good evening to all. I just acquired a 1963 Sea Ray 808 that has twin 40 horse Johnsons on the back end. Have been looking over some of the posts and am a bit confused as to the fuel/oil mixture. Some say 24 to 1 all the way up to 50 to 1. What should it be? Right now I'm running 50 to 1 and things seem to be fine but I don't want to have trouble down the road because the lubrication is not correct. Thanks for your time.

50:1 is the correct normal operation ratio.
35:1 is a rich in oil ratio for running in when new or after rebuild.
24:1 is too rich in oil and would cause problems.

EDIT: Wrong, wrong and wrong, DG.

You will get answers from 24:1 to 50:1. Officially it's 24:1. But most use less oil as the next year they changed the ratings to 50:1. I run around 35:1 or so in my early 60's engines. Use a good tcw-3 oil. I use full synthetic.

I'd love to see a pic of your boat if you have one. Dually's always look good.

According to OMC:
Pre-1964, 24:1
64 and later, 50:1

Here we go again, the topic that always starts a (ahem) discussion.

There is no difference in the internal construction of a 1963 vs. a 1964. Believe whatever you want to hear.

Thanks for all the replies. Will stick with what I have been putting in it. I'm a great believer in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Will try to download a picture of the boat. Enjoy what's left of summer!
