1963 Johnson Remote Control Components

I have a 1963 Johnson 18hp outboard. We are setting it up as a kick motor. I have mounted it to the back of the boat and doing some research on how to piece together a remote control. I have seen that OMC kits 386660 or 398032 can be used. I have looked at the pictures of the first kit and am thinking that the set up on my particular outboard is older and slightly simpler. I have attached pictures of the current bracket and where I believe that the throttle bracket would attach. I believe that I will need to get a 2 lever johnson control, but I am not sure what all I will need to put the cables to the outboard itself. I am open to any suggestions and I hope that I am not reposting something that already exists as have searched the forums.

Thanks,
Dane

I was informed by a local outboard GURU, that all I was missing was the same simple bracket for the throttle side. I hope this helps anyone else that may have this same question. It was way simpler than I would have thought and the cable popped right in place after we we installed the bracket. Sometime the answer is right in our own face.

The clips are similar, but not the same. They should be mirror images of each other to facilitate installation of the cable. Later sets are actually marked P and S for port and starboard mounting...

Chinewalker is correct. There are two different but mirrored brackets to install to allow the control and throttle cables work. I have a newer Johnson OB ('76 40 HP)that is so similar to yours with how the cables are attacked. The adjuster knob portion of the cables actually go in between those two ends.
