Spotted a 1963 3hp Lightwin for sale, I'm getting a taste for restoring these old motors and thinking I might buy it, although I don't really have a use for such a small motor!
What are they like, I take it parts are quite easily available?

That's a truely great engine. I think they went into production on them in the early fifties, and didn't let up on the same basic design until the eighties.
Check compression, etc, before you buy of course. Parts are very easy to find since it was such a popular engine.
3hp Tune Up article.
If you do get it, there's a hidden fuel filter above the fuel tank petcock. It's often found clogged.

I fixed up one a year ago for a freind ('63 3hp Rude, weedless), and it was one of the nicest engines I've ever seen running. I'm currently trying to secure a '69 4hp regular drive for myself.

Thanx guys, I think I may go for it, although as said I don't really know what I'll use it for.
Maybe I'll fix a bracket on the back of the skiff that I'm building next winter, a 3hp would propel that at a reasonable speed when I'm too tired to row and there's no wind to sail it!
I just like the look of it, and having nearly finished my FD-12 now I fancy having a go at another one.
