1963 merc 65hp fuel problems

more questions. my 1963 Merc 65Hp outboard has fuel comming out the bottom of the propeller when i pump the primer bulb. The primer bulb dose not get very hard? Im not sure if it should be rock hard or what? I have looked over all of the fuel lines and nothing that i can see is leaking.

Check the needle and seat in the carb. Check the float height. The bulb should get hard.

problem with float or sticking needle/seat in the<br />fill bowl will cause it to flood and leak out front<br />of the carbs. see any gas leaking when bulb is<br />being squeezed? may also have a bad primer bulb...<br />post results and good luck,<br />M.Y.

Yesterday there was a leak when i would pump the primer blub (the bulb would get hard). The leak was comming from the gas line that runs into the top carb. I fixed that leak and now theres nothing leaking while i pump the primer, just whats comming out around the propeller. Theres nothing that i can see thats leaking out of the front of the carbs. Any good ways to unstick the needle/seat in the bowl if thats what it is??

it ran for about ten Sec. then quit.. i just bought it last week.. Im gonna try it again here in a little bit. I have not tryed since i fixed the fuel leak.. ill let you know what happens. <br />Thanks for all the replys.

first job on a new/old motor is compression test.<br />if compression is good, then it's time to get<br />some carb and fuel pump rebuild kits, a new<br />impeller and plugs and maybe new fuel lines too<br />since one was bad, rest are close behind prob.<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.
