Hey guys I've been reading a lot on transom and floor replacement and getting ready to do both this spring. Questions concerning transom...can I do this without popping the top off the boat and is there someone that could walk me through the steps? I keep hearing lots of different methods as far as cutting from inside or outside , just to name few. I'll try to upload more pics tomorrow.

On that boat I would absolutely pop the cap. Should be a rub rail all around the outside that when removed will reveal all the fasteners. Usually riveted or screwed.

I keep hearing horror stories about not being able to get the cap back on...how do I make sure this doesn't happen?

You take a Ton of measurements and then wrap the hull with a nylon strap after the cap is removed. If you build a cradle for the hull and take her off the trailer it will support the hull much better. With good measurements and taking care when replacing the Transom, Stringers and Deck...The cap will go back on with no issues. The Devil's in the details and if you pay attention to them, you'll be just fine.
The second link in my signature line below has a LOT of good info for you.

I'd like to see an overall outside pic of your Lancer, looks to me like a cool little glass runabout.

No Title

Here it is. Somebody at some point was wanting to do a restore job and just quit. Looks like they painted over a soft floor and used mismatched exterior grade house paint to fix cracks. Lot of work ahead of me but I figured it was too cool to let go to waste.

Amazing how neglectful and downright abusive people are to the classic old boats.

She's a cutie pie! :thumb:

Where do you live? If you're using epoxy you can use the dust from your sander to thicken the resin. Will work just fine. However Cabosil IS very Inexpensive.

For what you'll be doing Polyester resin will work fine and is a lot less expensive. It's what I'd recommend.
US composites IS a good source for resin and fiberglass supplies. I get all my stuff from them

I second Woodonglass's recommendations as well. WOG's suggestion of US Composites is spot on. I got all my materials there as well.

Ok so looking like for my first shopping list I'll need:

1.) 2 gallon polyester resin??
2.) 1.5 csm
3.) 6 oz E glass
4.) 1708 biax

I'll have to do some figuring for my boat to place an order. Getting excited to get to it!

Yes!! used on the bottom side of the deck plywood. 1708 has CSM stitched to it soooo you don't need to lay down CSM where 1708 will be used.
