Hi guy's
I am just getting ready to put the new impellar back on lower unit,
And i noticed in the service manual that there isan o=ring at the top of the water pump cover along with a seal.

When i took the lower unit off there was no o-ring there, could it be that the guy befre me did not replace it as it is an omc part and can not be cross ref, to sierra?

Or should i just put it back like i found it ?

Re: 1964 40 hp impellar.

Thanks for your input lyncraft.

I did try the site you gave me but the part is not after market,
so i will get one from Johnson dealer,as the number is still good, and it's only a couple of bucks for it .

The part number is O.M.C.202591.
Look's like it's an o-ring about 1 and a half o.d.
I'll buy one now throuhg dealler but will match it up with one from NAPA when i get it you now Johnson part's are mark up lot's

That o-ring is necessary. The motor won't run right with the hood on if that o-ring is missing. Smoke will go through that space and up the drive shaft tube and out the vent hole at the top and then be sucked into the carburetor intake, and the motor tries to run on it's own exhaust smoke instead of nice clean air.

I am still going a head and changing points and cond,
the coils tested out to be ok thanks to the link that i got from HighTrim.
