Hi guy's
I have a 1964 johnson 40 hp
the guy i got it from has put on new cables for throtal and gear selection
well when i put the throtal to the wide open posision the motor will pick up speed and some time not all the time it will lose speed with out me addjusting the position of the throtal lever do you think it might be the fule pump?
i have a manual for this motor in it they say that it is one of the only motors for that era that you can rebuild the pump
Any sugestions will be appresated

Sounds like it could be a fuel supply issue sometimes. When it slows down try and pump the bulb and see what happens. And are you sure the cable is not slipping? Is the throttle plate horizontal when wide open?
