hi all,i finally finished our custom craft sunray named "way back when",and took it to its 1st boat show ,"antique and classic boat society"boat show at harvey's lake,pa.
we won an award for classic glass.
we also made the local news paper,it was great thanks to the wonderful members at the acbs harvey's lake chapter and president bill nash. here is the newspaper link http://citizensvoice.mycapture.com/mycapture/folder.asp?event=
i finished the interior the night before the show, now its time to work on the motor.
the picture of it all white is what it looked like when we found it in a farmers field 3 years ago,we had to entirely redo the interior and repaint the entire boat, and the trailer,a 1963 little dude.

That is the funkiest looking boat that I have seen in quite a while. Cool lines, nice bow sweep, and a stern just screaming for turn signal end caps.

Great workmanship!

thank you oldepharte,we were rattleing around the thought of putting 59 caddy bullet tail lights on it,the only reason we dont is it didnt have them originally,at the classic shows we will lose points, like we did because the center console was not there originally.
but it is a cool thought.

Nice job....that boat was born in Buffalo, NY.

Come to the Buffalo ACBS boat show on Grand Island, NY on Sept. 11th. Custom Crafts are icons around here and there are many originals at the show each year. Even if you chose not to display, you will enjoy the weekend events.

http://www.oldboatsbuffalo.org/

Custom Crafts were the featured boat a few years ago. Regardless, all Buffalo Born are featured every year.

Our show is the second largest in the country, only second to the museum in Clayton, NY.

Custom Craft went thru problems in the 1970's, but did stay in business. The current name is Clark Craft, and you might also want to visit their plant as well.

Oh yes, those judges can be persnickety for sure. I replaced all the bronze screws in my boat with polished new ones, then topcoated with varnish to keep them shiny. One screw came loose during the ride over to the show and that one point penalty cost me a trophy. That, coupled with flying a nylon flag and a modern stern light cost me the show.

The screw was replaced with a larger size, I acquired a cotton flag, and I found a NOS 1950 Perko light on E-Bay and the next year I took Best in Show.

hi jim, yeah i know about the buffalo show, this is custom crafts 50th anniversery, and will be the featured boat at the show,i would love to go ,but the travel costs so much ,i can only make a couple of shows a year.
we were invited to the hammondsport show by the people that run that show and they want pics of it to put on their next poster, unfortunatly we wernt able to make it.i hope to next year.
i think the owner of custom craft 's son or grandson will be at the buffalo show.i sure would like to meet him and find out more about our boat, its the only sunray with these type of fins, earlier ones had car type fins..
its ok that the judge took off points for it,i also lost some because the windsheild frame had rusty snaps in it,we didnt have time to fix that, but will for the next show, but we did get 94 points and it didnt have the motor,we are going to restore it ,if everything checks out ok,on it,its a 1963 evinrude, starflight selectric shift,75 hp.
if we can make it would be great to meet you,by the ay what kind of boat do you have?i would like to see it,can you post a pic of it?thanks again, john

I'm into woodies. Mine is a 1952 Lyman with Evinrude 25 Big Twin. I was at the Silver Lake show last year too, but I didn't bring the boat.
