I have a 64 orion boat and the steering wheel is very hard to turn. I've gone through and checked all the pulleys and they are turning free. Also when I crawl under the dash and grab the cables and pull on them a little bit the motor turns with very little effort. So I am thinking that is all in the wheel assembly but I can't figure out on how to get the steering wheel off. I don't want to break it cause it's all original. Please help!

Yes is does. I was messing around with it for a little bit the other night and I finally got it off. I was having a problem with really stiff steering and when I finally got the wheel off the center hub wasn't straight up and down like it should be and that was the problem! So I figured it out but I would like to know where and if I can get a different steering wheel and center cap (duratech) if possiable.

Hey there,
I am finishing up restoring the steering wheel assembly on my 57 Sealine RD. My steering wheel shaft was frozen up completely and is was a major undertaking to remove it without destroying the assembly. Email me if you need help or would like to see the pics of the assembly restoration.

if you can get it free, great, otherwise it would be far better to convert to teleflex style steering as it is more reliable and safer and requires far less maintenance. the steering on my steering works fine but as soon as I can afford it, I'm converting to teleflex.
