I am new to boats, just bought this one. The guy that had it previously said it needed a new switch and so he got one. He must not have had the wires marked because he said he couldn't put them back. There is also a junction box near the engine he has opened. There is a new (I'm guessing here) Solenoid Switch (looks like older Ford ones except smaller) laying out from the box. I would imagine the box is a junction box.

He has the battery to where when the hot wire is touches the battery it tries to start. He has it wired to the Solenoid Switch (looks like one) and into the engine. The ground side of it has no wires on it. I have looked on Ebay for a book that may have a wiring diagram for this engine but didn't see it. Does anybody know the wiring end, have a wiring diagram or know where it buy one?

Is it possible that he burnt out something?

Yep. Especially if he tried to use a Ford solenoid. They look the same but are different and are guaranteed to instantly burn up the safety switch.

You need a factory service manual to be assured you get the correct wiring diagram. www.outboardbooks.com

Would it turn over if the safety switch was burnt out?

I got the manual in and checked, he has the right solenoid switch. :D I have the box it is in all put back and while he was suppose to have a new switch, he didn't. So I have to get one.
