Hi guys,

I bought a 1964 Evinrude 40HP twin.
I had to disconnect all the wiring from the dash and the junction box..

I di not disconnect anything from the motor.
Can anyone post how to reconnect the engine side to the "box" and from the box to the dash.
I am at a loss on all things electric.
I am concentrating on getting the engine to start (electric w/generator/alternator).

Hopefully some one can shed some light on this.
PS the forums are really helpful.
Thanks,

Jim +

i have the same one and was told that mine dose not have a chargeing system so if your coiles and ponts are good it will only take two wires to start

In the Evinrude service manual 1st Ed Vol 2. it has a wiring diagram. I just bought the book today used at a boat store. I have a #40453S, my motor is not getting any spark. The book says the coil and points should be checked. MarineEngine.com is a good place to search for info. I had to find out online the year of my motor to search for parts. Another good place for parts was boats.net My motor also came with the opt. Generator kit, but is missing the pulley, nut, washer, and belt. I found all the parts online in Florida, but they want to much money. I was going to run it without the gen. and just recharge the battery after running it for the day.

did anyone ever get this figured out? I just bought a big twin 40. The boat has nothing since it is a rebuild. I have a pile of cables and wires. Everything is supposed to be there except the ignition switch.

Not ready to start but will need to have a idea what else I will need.
