My 18 hp johnson is hard to crank over. It has not run in a couple of years but always had good compression. Any ideas on what I need to do to get him turning over soo I can crank it. It only does about 2 cycles on the crank.

Hi drcov. Welcome to iboats. Great motor you have there. What is the compression currently? You can try removing the spark plugs and spraying a bit of WD-40, Deep Creep, or Seafoam into each cylinder to help loosen the pistons up a bit. After it soaks for a while try pulling it over by hand a few times, again with the plugs removed. If it is still difficult to turn over, you may have an issues with the pull starter itself and/or with the flywheel scarping up against the coils. Here are some great links that can walk you through a tune up from top to bottom. You can get any routine parts (carbs kits, tune up kits, reseal kits, etc...) you made need right here at iboats for about $20 each. Good luck. Holler if you get stuck.

Sounds like you are describing an electric start?

If so, battery fully charged and load tested? All connections clean and tight? Take them all apart and file them to a shine. This includes the ground. Any corroded wires will need to be replaced. Voltage drop testing will isolate faulty wiring.
