1964 Johnson 9.5 not firing on top plug

1964 Johnson 9.5 not firing on top plug. :facepalm:Very new to outboard mechinacs so please take it easy on the technical lingo. I need to know how to troubleshoot this issue in the simplest form. Is there a fairly common issue that can cause this? carbs and all fuel lines replaced and or cleaned but dont know what else is needed until both plugs are firing. New plugs as well. Any help is apprieciated. Thanks.

You are going to have to pull the flywheel and check the coil and points for the top plug, should be the front set of points and coil.

Already pulled it and to tell you the truth Im not sure what I was looking at. However a buddy of mine overseeing the project said everthing looked great. Almost new even. Is this somethig I could post pics of and let the pros weigh in, can points replacement/evaluation be explained without pics to an amateur or am I out of my league and this stuff is best left to those with more mechanical know how? I'm not sure of the difficulty of dealing with the ignition system but I dont want to damage anything beyond repair or worsen a possibly simple fix for an experienced mechanic. What do you guys think about ignition diagnoses difficulty on this model. So ive pulled the fly wheel what now?

hi jamesh1120. here's a labeled pic of what to expect under the flywheel and a couple of very handy links. Give 'em read and you'll have her fixed in no time. Very helpful. Thanks to everyone for the quick response. Im new to outboards and I can see iboats will be a lifeline for me. I will continue to look over all the pics and links before attempting any repairs. I will keep you all posted.
