Can someone describe to me or share a picture of the water drain/weep holes on the PORT side of the lower unit on their mid-sixties Evinrude or Johnson 40 to 90 hp? I just got a 1964 60 hp motor and there are a few holes that drain out water once I tilt the motor up after running it.... but there is one that looks it is a corrosion hole or a hole from a hard ding. I think a few motors used that same lower unit (non-electric shift), hence my listing the other horsepowers.

Is the gearcase full of oil and no water? If so, then stop worrying.

There was some discoloration to the gear oil and I an trying to eliminate possible leak areas. I dont want to JB weld a drain hole. Here is a pic: the white on the right is the prop. The hole I am referring to is in the center of the frame...sort of oblong with rough edges.

Aha, I sort of thought that is what you were concerned about. That is a drain hole, put there intentionally. But there is an o-ring in that area, sealing the upper and lower gearcase sections together. It is unlikely that it is leaking though, unless one of the studs are broken, then you would have a major leak.

Ok, so the small hole right above the prop is clearly a factory hole but the odd shaped one directly above the phillips head screw is also intentional? It did not leak gear oil but water "bled" out of it once I tilted the motor up and out of the water.

Run to a repair shop and have the lower unit pressure tested to check for leaks.-----If it was my only motor I would simply install a seal kit and be good for 20 more years.

That's what I just said, it is an intentional drain hole. Yes, oily water from the exhaust housing comes out of it. That's what it's there for. It's odd-shaped because it is milled, not drilled.
