I have recently purchased a 1965 15' fiberglass boat. The engine is pretty much gone and the boat is in good shape. I am struggling with updating controls, steering, and motor on this old boat, probably around $4,500 when I am done. To all of you out there would you put the money into a boat with this age? Also, is there anything I should be worried about with a 42 yr old fiberglass boat, for example stress fractors and items like that??

It's your call. I'd dig really deep, though, into the structure of your boat before making the decision. If you have other problems, like with the transom, you could be getting into a bigger project than you want to finish.

These days, $4500 can buy you a pretty nice little used boat that you can actually use this season.

Still, if you're in love with the design, or just have to have that particular 1965 boat for some reason, then it'll be a labor of love. If not, it just might be hard labor.
