Hi,
I have just bought a 1965 40hp engine, with electric start. The seller told me that it has a dynamo, for charging batteries. Hanging out of the engine are 5-6 small wires, apart from the main red and black battery wires. Could anyone please give me some advice on how I go about using the engineto charge a battery, or point me to a web site that will show me?

Thanks,

Pete.

If it has charging capabilities, it must have a belt driven generator mounted under the cowl. The belt is driven off of the flywheel. Check and see if that's all there.

The generator would be mounted on the port side, opposite the starter and there would be a small toothed belt running frum it, to the top of the flywheel.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Yes the generators there. I've no doubt that it will charge a battery, the guy I bought it from was pretty up front, I just don't know what to do with all the loose wires that hang from the engine.

What color are the wires? Is there a voltage regulator under the generator?
