I have a 1965 60HP Johnson Seahorse (Model VXL-11C). My carburetor has high-speed adjustment needle valves. One of the two high-speed orifices (jets) was stuck and damaged and cannot be drilled out. (broke off an easy out in the orifice!). The other orifice came out very easily.
I will not be trying to remove any orifices (jets) in the future if they appear clear and clean.
I am now looking for a replacment carb and found some on eBay. I noticed that on "newer" models, (ie 1968) they have removed the high speed needles and have fixed high-speed jets. Can I mount one of these 1968 carbs on my 1965. I checked the gasket PNs and they are the same so it appears it wil fit on my intake. The other concern is throttle linkage.
Why did OMC move to fixed high-speed jets. Will this setup be too rich or lean for my motor. Do I need high speed needle valves for my motor?
