This board is great. This is my first post to this board and I've been lurking for at least 2 years now. I've just aquired this motor in trade for a dusty small router table that a guy wanted. It's free and appears to be in mechanically better condition then when I got my 1960 Evinrude Lark II. I've never owned a Chrysler and need some help with the birdnest of wires that are coming out. Also a diagram of the carb would also be greatly appreciated. The SN# is VWB19092B.

Suggestions And Support Until ?Real Help & Techs? Arrives Is My Job:

1. Have you found any related info from searches and manuals?

2. Can you post close pictures of the problems?

3. ? Pictures Are Worth A Thousand Words?!

4. This would allow me to hit my manuals or send related info/Pics.

5. Trust Me! Help is on the way when some specifics are shown or documented.

Re: 1965 Chrysler Sea King 50hp help

I will take some pics tonight or tomorrow of the harness. Also, I need to know how the bowl on the carb comes off. It doesn't look like it screws on, but it's not coming off easy and I don't want to damage it. Also I'm curious about what is replaceable on the fuel filter/pump housing. Pictures are worth a thousand words, so I'll have to get some posted.

That motor is pre chrysler. More likely West Bend. Most chrysler parts should fit on it. Does carb look like this

Does fuel pump look like this

Re: 1965 Chrysler Sea King 50hp help

The carb looks just like mine, but the fuel filter and pump look different from what I remember from last night. I'm going get some pics posted tonight after work. The float moved freely and the bowl had nothing in it. The sight glass on the pump housing is what I was talking about earlier. Not the bowl on the carb now that I think of it. I have a good parts house near my work for older boats, so hopefully I can get parts at a decent price.

These are great diagrams/pictures/text info (that I?ll save) to get this project moving. My 1970, 35 Chrysler is similar in some ways. I?ll jump in where I see I can help with many Pics and info I have accumulated since 1985.

Re: 1965 Chrysler Sea King 50hp help

I stopped off today and was able to pick up a shop manual for Chrysler 1963-1965 for 25 bucks. Not too bad since the Clymers and Seloc's were priced higher. I'm also able to get most of the parts to get the carb and fuel pump put back together. My last question, for now atleast, is what's the best way to clean the motor? It's had some mud dobber nests and other random creatures make homes around the motor. It's not too bad, but I don't want to be making 40+ year old electronics unhappy...

Re: 1965 Chrysler Sea King 50hp help

The pump does not look good in those pics You are going to need a minimum of the diaphram but it looks like one of the check valves is rusted and it looks like the one on the left side is totally gone. Here are the parts you will need for the fuel pump.

18-7806 this is the rebuild kit for the fuel pump NAPA sells them as well as Iboats here. There will be three tiny washers for the check valves. Toss them they are too small

21-F177330 check valves. Order these from Mercury outboard they cost about $6 each. I would get 4 in case you damage one

27-F84792 correct washers for the check valve. These also from Mercury for $0.58 each

18-7037 carb rebuild kit. NAPA or Iboats sells these

You could try and just get the rebuild kits for the carb and the fuel pump but I am sure you will have to replace one or more of the fuel valves (check valves in the pump. This is a start hope it helps

Re: 1965 Chrysler Sea King 50hp help

I checked NAPA online and the diaphram number doesn't come up. I'm going to run by my local Napa this week hopefully and see if it's in their book. Thanks!

Re: 1965 Chrysler Sea King 50hp help

The diaphragm is in the rebuild kit last I bought one was only 9 bucks for the kit. Problem was none of the local stores had them. I had to wait a couple of days for it to come in.
