1965 Evinrude lower unit onto 1962 Johnson?

I have a 1962 Johnson Electric Shift Seahorse 40HP and the bottom end is friend, i can pick up a 1965 Evinrude 40HP electric shift with a blown powerhead but good bottom end for $50. <br /><br />Are these parts interchangeable and will it work ok on my motor? <br /><br />Thanks for the replies guys this is a great site i dont know what i'd do without it!

Neat, a Johnrude or Evinson outboard. Should work as long as they are both long shaft or both short shaft. If not some parts swapping will be needed. Pull both units and check to make sure the driveshaft splines are the same, I'm pretty sure they are.
