I got a 1965 33 HP Evinrude on Sunday and this boat came with it. It seems like a cool boat, but there are 2 soft spots in the floor, about 1'x1' each. I was wondering how I should go about replacing the floor. Should I fix each spot or rip the entire floor out? Everywhere else is solid as new....

I also need some help in identifying the boat. It says Southern Fiberglass Products (Sanford, FL) on a plate where the serial number is. I did some research and couldn't find anything on them....Did they change their name? go out of business? etc?

Thanks for any help!!!:)

Boat Flipper welcome to iboats . I cant help you with the manufacurer of your boat alot of companies came and went in the ( fiberglass sportboat area ) between the middle 50's and middle 60's. I own a 1960 Cutter runabout which was made by the Owens Brothers Yacht company in Tell city Indiana starting in 1955 and sold to the Brunswick corparation and gone by the middle sixties although Brunswick still made Larson boats afterwards.

So would it be best to redo the whole floor, rather than the two spots?

Check your transom, if it's still in good condition, enjoy the summer in your boat and do the whole floor (not just the 2 spots) and transom in the fall.

BTW: My floor felt solid too :mad:

Also: I have a 1967 runabout made by the WestWind boat company, Tampa Fl. I have also googled & came up empty:confused:

most likely u will have too but there is a chance u wont. somehting that old most likely has bad wood foam etc. check them for now. and if u do decide to rebuild it might as well redo the transom just saying if not done before

I started cutting out the soft spots today....one turned out to be a bit bigger than anticiapted, the other not too big...I did get some humor while doing this today.Turns out, the previous owner had the seats screwed down THROUGH the hull....wow....I would imagine that is what caused the floor to begin rotting in the first place, or at least a contributing factor. I lifted the tongue of the trailer up really high, and about five gallons of water ran out of the bottom of the boat....I'll keep you all updated!

I just found an almost identical boat! Does your have an evinrude 40 big twin? do you have any more pix?

I am still debating whether or not to take the boat... the neighbor wants it gone, but I dont know what it needs, or what it will take to get it up and running again... Here is a thread i started for you to check out... original color used to be red supposedly...

Boatflipper, usually deck, stringers and transoms go hand in hand. there is very rarely a time that all 3 DON'T need to be done.

John, I think the boats are identical. Both have the 'Cobia' steering wheel, and the same plate on the transom. Mine, however had a 33 HP Ski-twin on it and it was the original motor with the boat. Anyway, I really wanted to fix mine up but I just picked up a Mark Twain 18 ft. tri-hull and the 'Southern Fiberglass' Has been put on the back burner....so did you get that boat or pass on it??
