1965 johnson, again

Well, I got the 1965 18h johnson going but it doesn't rev up all the way. started doing a little better but not quite right. It does pick up to top rpm for just a second then slows back down. What are the probable causes?

I am iliterate when it comes to motors. How do you check it?

dirty carbs, fuel delivery, timing, poor compression. what have you done, and do you have a manual?

First step is to get a manual for it. What color are your plugs? should be chocolate brown...

all I have done is replace fuel hoses and water pump. No, I don't have a manual. Guess I should get one.

Take Tashas" dads advice ,,, get the manual , try and understand it , you can get them at the library if money is a concern, then you need to tell us alot( all you can ) of information about the condition of the motor before we can help you diagnose the problems ,,
