1965 merc 1000 100hp Won't shut off (NEECAPRS) HELP!

neeecaprs need help again<br />after i replaced the rectifier the motor will not shut off now, have to use the choke to kill it?<br />didn't notice problem until i replaced the rectifier? could it be?<br />the key will start it but doesnt shut it off.<br />took off control box and checked all wires, replaced solinoid

Martyt: CONGRATULATIONS!! As you read these forums, you see many people who would kill to have that kind of problem! <br />Seriously, look at the path of juice coming from the NOW WORKING rectifier. It's feeding the coils directly with no ability for the key switch to interrupt it. If you did some repair in the wiring harness, you'll have to go back and find where the lead from the rectifier was tied onto the ignition line. Where it NEEDS to be is on the battery line-- before the ignition switch. Physically-- and functionally-- that wire runs in varying sizes from the battery to the ignition switch to the starter solenoid--ain't that nice! If you want a really fast fix, just run a wire from the rectifier to the battery terminal on the starter solenoid. But, don't leave open wires hanging. Before you start this fix, suggest that you verify the problem by simply removing the red wire at the rectifier and making sure that move makes everything normal again. If so, it wouldn't hurt to figure out how that wire got tied in to the ignition line.<br />Keep me posted! :D

Sorry my bad :eek: well i found out it was a pin in the harness where it plugs in, 1 pin was pushed in, pulled it out and solved the problem :D <br />shuts off now!! thanks for leading me in the right direction :cool: <br />took out sunday middle carb wasn't getting fuel :fixed: then was spitting and trying to get up rpms slow response intermitant miss ran 7 gals of fuel threw it ran so so. ordered new points should be in fri, hope to be back out by the weekend :D i'll keep ya posted <br /><br />martyt
