Hello,<br /> I just uncovered a small cache of various outboard motors from my ailing fathers barn ... that I never knew he even owned for the past 45 years. <br /><br />Two of the motors I knew about ...from when back in the late 1950's and early 1960's my dad and I used to motor out into Saginaw Bay for Duck Hunting. <br /><br />(1) 6hp Sea King (Wards) <br />(3) Elgin with Elgin tanks<br />(2) Scott Atwaters<br />(1) Evinrude<br />(1) Martin 200 SilverStreak<br />(1) Chris Craft<br /><br />I'am very interested in putting new spark plugs into the 1965 6hp Sea King (Wards) and want the correct plug.<br /><br />Also ... I need to identify the correct Gas/oil ratio mix ... ???<br /><br />From what I have read to date .. the Sea King Motor's were built by West Bend then Chrysler<br /><br />HELP?<br /><br />................... "Doc"<br /><br />.

Sea Kings were built mainly by Gale (OMC) prior to the early 60s. Later they were West Bend/Chrysler.<br /><br />A model number wouold help.<br /><br />Moving to Other Outboards

Re: 1965 Sea King (Montgomery Wards) Maintenance

My clymer manual says to use a L4J which no longer exists. The cross reference plug is a champion L82C. This works well with chryslers and should be gapped at .030 inch. If plug tends to foul or you mainly troll you can go to a L86C which is the next hotter plug. If motor pumps water it is 50 to 1 mix using a good quality TC-W3 oil.Clymer manual can be used even though it only goes back to 1966. You can contact www.chryslercrew.com for a downloadable parts and factory service manual for this machine. If you can get it to start I would start by tossing some marvel mystery oil in each cylinder and crank it a couple of times and let it sit for a couple of days. Rebuild carb, fuel pump and all fuel hoses and then run 24 to 1 mix for the first couple of gallons of gas then go to 50 to 1 after that.
