I'm in the process of redoing my new to me 1965 Glastron V-171 Sportsman's stringers and transom. Just got it home tonight. I know it's going to need that stuff done. No problem. What's interesting on this one and other Glastrons I've seen , is the fact that the transom wood doesn't span the full width of the transom area...it comes a few inches short on either side. Seems like a great many boats go the full width. So...as long as I'm doing it, what's the harm in cutting the new piece full width, and having that extra strength...as long as I'm at it. Seems it would be much stronger, as it ties into the stringers as well as the corners and sides...distributes the load better. Any Ideas? I'll get some photos soon. Cool boat! No motor, no seats, soft floor and transom, but it was priced tight. LOVE that year!
