I'm new here, and I hope I can get some help. I have been trying to locate the Windshield gasket for my project, the one that was on her is weathered to the point of being useless. I'm looking for a vendor or a person that might know where to get the Windshield gasket along with the bumper rail and other rubber or vinyl guards and trim. I am going to do a full restore on this old SC and need the original parts if I can get them.
I so far have reduced the boat to a stripped hull, replaced the transom due to rot, and the interior deck, next is paint and re assembly. If anyone knows of a place I can obtain the gasket and molding I need I would appreciate it. Thanks ....
CJ.

Welcome CJ!

Since you're brand new here, let me tell you that the guys around here are picture *****s. We love to see these old boats restored and without pictures... it just didn't happen, right?

I know which gasket you're refering to, but I'm not sure where you can find one. Maybe one of the other guys has found one and will chime in later. I used a weatherstrip/caulking cord made by Mortile that I bought at HD or Lowes.

I think the gasket you are looking for is here....

Best price by quite a bit. Another iboat rebuilder used it & was very happy w/ it. There are other sources, ebay often has it for $55-70, too.

Welcome to the tin-sanity.

How's about some pix of this rig

Looking at the pics, I'll go with the Twin-Flap channel too. I might change my mind when Jester posts some clear pics.

Hang on a minute! The 1966 brochure shows a different windshield than one that uses Twin-Flap. Yeah - Pics please.

Re: 1966 18.5 Starcraft Holiday rebuild

here are a few more from the build from what I started with, and some of the replacement of wood floors and transom The transom had to be replaced it was dry rotted 3" up from the bottom, the floors were all shot, replaced the "flotation foam" sound proofing in the bilge some critter had destroyed the old foam, I used high density foam panels and cut them to fit, 3/4" pressure treated ply for deck, and found a 4X8 sheet of 1 1/2 marine for the transom and cut it to fit. The motor 110 HP merc ( 4 cylinder chevy) is headed to a engine shop in Concord NC, I was told he would "upgrade" the little engine to put out more HP ( the guy builds racing engines) should be painting soon

Jester - It's not too late. Before you too far I recommend tossing the pressure treated floor. PT and aluminum do not play well together and the PT preservatives will eat through the hull. Too many of us have learned that, including me.

Oh yeah the old holiday will some out real nice with a new dress and spruced up power.

I don't know if the PT ply is a problem if it's sealed up correctly it shouldn't be able to leach onto the aluminum.

The one important thing about these older SC's is the hull stiffeners or lack thereof and if there's any damage at the rib ends. Starting at this post in my thread you can see some repairs to my Chief and Bluefin's SS. http://forums.iboats.com/starcraft-...tarcraft-chieftain-611434-19.html#post4496690

Further down in the thread on that page you can see the hull stiffeners that were added to my Chief. The Holiday, Chieftain and SS are all known to have the problem of cracking at the rib ends and splashrail. Grandad also had some major issues with cracking on his holiday.
Bluefin's SS hull stiffeners: http://forums.iboats.com/starcraft-...1975-18-supersport-595947-24.html#post4461184

Grandad's Holiday: http://forums.iboats.com/boat-resto...iday-reno-hull-repair-517895.html#post3497391

Just trying to give you the important information on the problems faced when restoring these older SC's. If nothing else inspect very closely the rib ends and sprayrail for cracking. What happens it the boat gets rotten and the people keep using them which stresses the heck out of the hull which causes these cracks.

I forgot to ask what's the white material on the inner seam?

On the PT, and purely my personal opinion - Sealed well is nice, but tell me how a floor can be installed without penetrating the sealant? Or mounting anything attached to the floor? Sure you can use 5200 or 4200, but these hulls flex and any fasteners are constantly stressed. Like I said, my opinion and I am tiring of chasing pinholes caused by PT.

Re: 1966 18.5 Starcraft Holiday rebuild

We checked all the spars and the outer rails for stress cracks and "soft area's" , found none. Lucky this was my Dad's boat I pretty much know it's history, and hull wise she's as solid as new. The white on the inside seam is automotive seam seal very flexible and won't peal. Today we.(my son and I) primed and painted the bottom, I'm lucky he works at a body shop. The gunnels will be in two weeks he want's the paint to cure well before we flip it. Here are a few pics of today's job. The color is inspired by a Canadian malted barley beverage lable..LOL take a guess on the brand, but she is going to be a handsome lady when she's done.

Man that looks nice, looks like metallic blue. Can't wait to see what you shoot on the parts of the boat you can see!

Re: 1966 18.5 Starcraft Holiday rebuild

add me to that chorus. right now, it will be a 4-5 hour job to pull PT deck, use it for templates and cut new from marine or exterior, and seal it and reinstall. galvanic corrosion is ugly and pernicious and hard to stop.

otherwise than that, i love the job so far. waaay cool paint color; definite hot rod feel. shouldn't be too hard to find more hp on motor; later versions had 140hp. Murk either bored or stroked it to get from 2.5 to 3 liters; not sure about camming, carb and other changes.
