1966 500 merc sn# 1939837 won't start

i have a 1966 500 merc sn# 1939837 won't start..it will run for about 10 sec then die..it will run a little longer if u pump on the bulb a little...what could be wrong?

Sounds like a failing fuel pump or fuel supply to me.

Are you able to get the primer bulb to stay hard? Is gas can venting okay? With a motor that old you may want to test the compression. If you have low compression you are not going to get much fuel.
