It has been a while since I have posted here.. I build wooden fishing boats and when I start a new one (which I did in April) it can occupy every free minute for half a year... but I'm baaaack!!

OK.. saw an ad for a folding 3hp little-rude and I bought it a really low price. (so I thought) All I really wanted was the case that was included, it is spotless. So I throw the 3hp in the tank after the usual orphan-routine,(that is carb clean, new impeller, new plugs, and tank clean) and she fired right up, then died. Again, and the same result...I determined that she was starving for gas, because I could half-choke and get her running ok, but the motor sounds really odd... kinda like there is a compression problem.

BTW, I also exchanged carburetors with my other 1966 3hp, and the same result, so it's not the carb. I checked the compression and I have exactly 89 lbs in each hole. I have a couple hours invested, decided that before I use her for an anchor, I will ask the experts. (that would be you guys)

I consider myself to be something of a J-dub (JW) officianado.. after all, I own 9 of them,( need to update my profile list badly) and they all run great, except this one. What do I do next??

There is a stone like filter that screws into the gas tank... sounds like it's clogged somewhat resulting in fuel starvation to the carburetor.

Agree + 1 ... with Joe. Those filters were always trouble.

Fuel filter could be the culprit...except, I am running the motor from a funnel directly to the carb. I zip tie the funnel to the lower frame. The tank and tin are removed to help me get to the working parts.

Running if you half choke it is a classic symptom of a dirty high speed jet (orifice plug). But you say it is the same with a different carburetor. OK, I'll ask.....are you sure that one is clean? In any case, I say check it. It must be absolutely, positively CLEAN.
