1966 Johnson 60 (VXL-12R) Lower Unit Studs

Motor: 1966 Johnson 60 (VXL-12R)

Lower Unit Stud broke and I need to replace. My question is I read it is torqued down. How do you torque a threaded bolt that has no hex area to accept a wrench or socket???

The part that I'm referring to is the two stus that secure the two pieces of the lower unit together. About 10" long and 3/8' in diameter.

Double nut the end of the stud, torque down with a socket and then remove the nuts. You can use a vice grip if you have to to hold the stud while removing the nuts.
