I have a 1966 johnson 9.5 hp. I was wondering what the approximate top speed would be. I have it mounted on a 1966 12ft 50" beam v-bottom aluminum boat. Loaded with fishing equipment and two(2) adults, it weighs around 700-800 lbs. According to my gps, it says we are moving along 6.3 - 6.9 mph. Does this sound close to where it should be as far as speed? Thank you

I'm thinking 6.9mph is a tad slow, my setup is pretty close in weight and although I've haven't had it outside the harbor with the GPS yet it has no problem doing the 5mph harbor speed.

Here is a 9.5 pushing a 14ft tin boat with 2 and 3 people and varying surface conditions.

Same boat, same motor with 3 people but only running on one cylinder.

I had a 72 Johnson 9 1/2 as a kicker on my 16ft fiberglass deep V boat, weighed over 1400 lb with people, gear and main engine... I could easily achieve 8 mph plus on my GPS @ WOT on the kicker...

I just want to say Thank you to all who posted replies. Sounds as though the general consensus is that I may need to do some tuning. Thank you all again. Jim
