how fast should a 19 or 20 ft boat go with a 140 hp mercruiser? thanks

I have a 1966 Glassmaster 17 foot V hull run about with a 2.5 Mercruiser. This stern drive is so old that it was originally painted white and has no trim and tilt - all manual. I don't horse it around any more, but it runs 42MPH at 4200 RPM. It still purrs like a kitty.

a 66 fiberform is a really heavy boat......you might ask a bonnified hull inspector to look at it......you might be buying a rotten waterlogged pile of junk. just have a look in the restoration section. allmost every boat past 80 is in for a full restoration....transom...hull.. foam and stringers
