I'm considering buying a vintage boat that has a 1966 Merc 65HP that is in very good shape. I would like the convenience of tilt and trim which the motor does not have. I know many of these inline 4 cylinder 65HP, 80HP, and 85HP Mercs from that time period shared many common parts. Would it be possible to put tilt and trim on this motor? I know they had the pump on the inside of the transom back then. I guess I would need to swap out the shock absorbers for hydraulic pistons. I'm trying to figure what I need to look for. Do I need a whole different swivel bracket? I guess they had some kind of dash mounted switch too but I could probably use something modern. Any help someone can give me would be appreciated.
The rig that I am looking at is boat, motor, and trailer that are all 1966/1967 just like they came from the dealer. I would like to keep it pretty authentic looking.
