Trying to fire up this old motor and found out it's no getting spark to the top plug. The plugs are good, and the points look fine. In fact all the ignition parts look like new.

How can I test the coil, and condenser?

Where can I get replacement parts for such an old engine, if needed?

It's a Wards Sea King 6hp two cylinder. Model: VWB19074A, serial: 66X 10850.

Your wisdom is greatly appreciated!
-Spiker

Your motor is a West Bend/Chrysler built.
I would swap the parts around and see if the problem follows.Points and condenser are
available at NAPA for a 6 hp Chrysler.Should be very similar to your motor.Coils will be harder to find.NAPA does list an electronic conversion
for 2 cyl. motors.18-5101.Some NAPA branches
dont have a clue about their 600+ page
marine products catalog.

spiker, to test the condenser first remove it. then ground the condenser body and jump several sparks from the good spark plug wire to the wire comming off the condenser being tested. carfully pick up the condenser (do not touch the end of the wire) and hold the body in one hand, take the wire by the insulation and bend it so the stored spark can jump from the end of the wire to the condenser body. no spark = no good. I've had alot of old motors and it is quite often the coils that are bad.

Thanks for the info! I will give it a try. If the condensor is bad, will that cause the no spark condition?
Thanks again,
-Spiker

Well, NAPA doesn't list the coils. They have points and condensers, but no coils. Now what?

The coils have a number on them, X14877, and the plate that holds all the ignition parts says WICO X11403C.
HELP!

spiker, did you try switching the coils around. This will let you know for sure if the coil is the problem.

Hello again. Thanks for the help! With the cold snap, the outboard repairs are on hold till I can stand the temps a bit better. I'm still hoping to make this motor run, and eager to hear any advice I can get. Thanks again,
-Spiker
