Hello all. New to the site.. and boats :) I got my first boat today, 1979 Monark 1750 with a 50hp 1966 Sea King (VWB 19091a). The steering cable is not attached, and I'm not at all sure there is a spot on the motor for it to attach to. Is there a mount or anything supposed to be in place? I have a manual on order, but was wondering if it would just be better to buy some sort of kit and redo it all? Thank you so much for your time.. and sorry for the noobish inquiry :)

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Can ya post some pictures of the front of the motor, the back of the boat, on various angles of each,...??

Ya got an older boat, 'n an antique unusual motor,...

Have ya got just one cable on the starboard side, or 2 cables comin' down each side,..??
Any pulleys involved,..??
That old motor probably don't have a tilt tube to use, so other ways are needed,...

If ya have problems postin' pictures, post 'em at a photo hostin' site, 'n link 'em back here,...
The software here is alittle buggy,...

Steering and throttle/shift control should all attach the same as the same year Johnson/Evinrude as I recall. Used with pulleys and cable but it is able to be changed to a rotory helm with the right parts.

Sorry, my mistake. looks like the 1966 is a Chrysler model and not the OMC they had been using for many years. Still should be able to change to a single cable helm.

Thanks for the response! I will get some photos up tomorrow. It has a rotary system with a single cable on the starboard side.
