well hopefully you guys can give me a few tips on restoring this boat. i believe it is a 1966 starchief but i am actually not sure. i will post some pics of its current condition, i just bought this for $380.00 and although i am sure the road ahead is going to be a long one i couldnt help falling for this boat. i intend to post pics of the restore progress as i go. these pictures here dont reflect the changes i've made so far...new wiring and lights for the trailer(which had none when i got it), new coupler on trailer and new trailer jack.
The boat is going to be completely gutted and redone and i would like to restore it as close to original as possible. If anyone has a 1966 starcraft brochure i'd appreciate a copy.

When i first considered buying this my thoughts were to restore it and sell it. I have a 1978 Searay 24' cuddy that i use regularly for fishing and recreation.
However, the more i look a this starchief the more I plan on keeping it as a second boat lol. My searay is pictured below.

Nice boat! Welcome to iboats and the Starcraft club. If you don't mind, could you update your profile with your location? We SC guys like to know where everyone lives.

SB, good lookin boat you got there. Glad to see another 66 making it's way to the water again!

Got you pm. I can add you to the list if you want the aluminum logos. Bret is also making some nice vinyl ones so you should check them out also.

As far as the brochure goes, you can find a copy of your page in the 66 brochure we have on line in Huron Angler's brochures thread in the starcraft forums.

See there guys. Another one of those white outdrives........

How many horses is that Mercruiser?

Spellbound welcome to the club...love that old rig you've got:)

Probably not too many old tin cans like that out in Arizona either:cool:

Good luck with the project!

Hey thanks for all the replies and helpful info. I definitely want to get some metal emblems for this boat and I'm sure I can find a place for the vinyl ones too. I'm not sure but I think the HP is 120hp. The boat is at a friends house so I can't just run outside and look LOL. And a huge thanks to you guys for pointing me to the brodhures . I will post new pics as the restore progresses .

Don't know how I missed you before as I was beginning to think I have the only '66 left (thanks Huron Angler for all your help finding the year on my lady) on the planet. Good luck with the resto. Did you purchase any emblems yet? I could use a couple.

Re: 1966 starcraft starchief restore

I just joined the forum and just got myself a 18' cuddy with o/b on a excellent trailer. Most of the interior has been removed but I am going to need help on putting in a new floor. I am going to take some pic's and post them to show what I am up against.

Be sure to start your own thread and put Starcraft somewhere in the title. You cannot change the title once you create it. Mine could be much better.

Re: 1966 starcraft starchief restore

hey everyone...yes i am still alive...lol. havent been working on the 1966 starcraft til just the other day because the summers here in phoenix are too damn hot. well I've gotten the floor out and the cabin wall (will post a pic). Also I have begun sandblasting it to get down to bare metal before i paint it. I know, sandblasting is probably more than I need to do but i want to get it down to bare metal and put a real nice paint job on her. The weather is starting to get nicer here so I should be able to finish the sandblasting pretty soon.

Be careful sandblasting. I've heard it can totally warp aluminum.
