Hi again,

I've been running this motor alot and it hasn't actually fouled any plugs to the point where it wont run.It runs good through the throttle range. My question is,what would cause the port side cylinders to be wet after it runs? The starboard plugs look as a two stroke should. The compression still checks out at 100psi on all cylinders.I can't figure it out.Could this be a timing issue?Since the other plugs are dry it couldn't be an ignition problem, could it?All cylinders fire strong.
Thanks for any advice,Chris

Does it have automotive type ignition? If so there is a set of points for each cylinder bank. If it runs good and idles nice responds to mixture adjustments ect then I wouldn't worry about it, when you cut the ignition to shut down motor the spark has to stop leaving some unfired plugs somewhere.

It is a points style ignition, It idles a bit rough and by rough I mean it shakes intermittently at idle, but runs great at any higher rpm.It responds to any and all adjustments.

If one set of points is grossly out of adjustment, it will affect the timing on one bank. But I sort of doubt that is the issue.

Adjust the idle mixture needles individually. Hope you have a good ear for it though. I don't.

How would I go about adjusting them individually?Just disconnect the linkage and turn the two for those cylinders in until proper mixture is obtained?

Nothing to do with linkages, the idle mixture screws are on the front of the carb, one for each side of the engine, with the motor warmed up good at idle screw them inward 1/2 turn at a time till you find out the point just where the engine begins to spit sputter then about 1/4 turn out from there, do them one at a time and go back and forth between them till each one is just slightly opent beyond the point of spit sputter. Once set you shouldn't have to mess with them again, you can also perform this idleing in gear if on the water.

So the mixture adjustment on the sides of the carbs that are linked, are they for the high speed adjustment? All I see on the front of the carbs is allen head screws.I always thought the linked ones were the idle adjustment.I have a manual but its for a variety of engines and no real help at all.Thanx again.

The 80hp starflite has only one carb with two bowls and I was thinking the 100hp would be the same but probably not, if you have two seperate carbs then I'm not familiar and can't be much help.

That is a four barrel carburetor with four idle mixture adjustment needles.

The idle adjustment needles are all linked together. Pull the knobs off and you can adjust them individually. Don't go crazy with them, move in small increments.

Actually, you would do best to see how far open the ones are that are running clean, then open the others the same amount.

The high speed jets are fixed orifices. Thank God.
