Hi all. Been a little while, but I have an urgent request. I was told by "someone" how easy it was to change out the seals on my lower unit, as I was leaking oil. It wasn't quite as simple as I imagined, as I am a novice. But, I finally got them all changed out.
Now to my problem... trying to put the lower unit back on the motor and I have two copper tubes coming off of my impeller housing going up. When I try to get the lower unit back on, the longer of the two seems to be too long by a couple inches if I put it back in the upper grommet. I know that it is not too long, as it was in there before, but the lower unit will not come close to going high enough with it back inside the upper unit grommet. What am I missing? Does this tube not go back in the grommet, or what?

It does go in the grommet. Did you squirt some oil up in there so it will slide in easy? Put some oil on the shift cable ribs too for the same reason.

It slides in, but seems to bottom out. I will try again, though.

Upon examination, it does go, but the longer one goes to the pickup in the bottom. Now, there are two holes and grommets on the impeller housing and only one tube left, which one doe I put the shortere tube in, and why is one left open? I have confused myself. Thanks again.
