I have a 1969 Johnson 100 hp that will not plane. The motor is on a 1967 carelle 16 foot not sure what model. the boat is green closed bow but it has a hatch that flips up so you can jump up on the bow by the window, Anyhow.

Motor model number is V4TL-13A ( Johnson Golden Metor Power pulse ignition)

I checked compression are four are at 90 I only had it finger tight so it may be 100.

I took off the case and all six butterflies are opening.

Also when I turn off my key there is still power to the lights ( hot and I can see there is some to the on light just not as much)

When I first get to the lake it takes alittle while before the starter will get enought juice to turn it over, But after that one time it starts right up for the rest of the day.

The old motor runs good but then I give it full throttle so I can plane and get going it just wont do it,

I ordered some new plugs should be here today. I hope I got the right ones

Like I said after getting her started the first time at the lake she starts easy and she runs fine. But at full throttle I cant get it to plane.

Please help Ive spent to much time re doing the floor and seats ect to just have a half donkey motor. thanks for any info

Obviously not running on all four cylinders. Can only tell you the possibilities.

No /or/ weak spark on some of them.
That one has a timing belt, right? Might be off a tooth.
Clogged high speed jets in the carburetor.
Stuck float valves in the carburetor.
Poor compresion. Sorry, I don't know what is "normal".

And what's this about the lights glowing when turned off? Something is screwy there. Be mighty careful with the electrical system on that motor. It is easy to blow the pulse pack with defective wiring.

You don't want to know what a carburetor kit costs for that motor...if you can find one. Or even the gaskets.

I got new plugs today so Ill try that. Im new to this so Im not sure where the high speed jets are. ( any help you can give I would greatly be grateful)

Yes this one has a timing belt. How do I check the timing?

as for the wiring it looks right.? I wonder if the key switch it bad, Im not sure,,,

I just re did the floor carpet chairs ect. so I would like to get it running right.

I found out AFTER I bought the boat how fun this motor is! ( parts/cost )
but the old beast looks in great shape and has been taken care of very clean from what I can see.

Once again thanks for the help and anymore I can get!
