I have a 1967 Johnson 80 hp V4 with a lower unit that someone already disassembled. No idea what damage was done by the person who did disassemble it, if any, or even if all the parts are there (have box... :)

I'd like to sell the unit, but would like to demonstrate it runs.

Can I take the lower unit off and connect a hose to a pipe going to the power head and test run that way? Obviously I'd be sure to keep rpms low.

I have the controls, but they've also been disassembled (why, I've no idea), is there a quickie way to start this thing without connecting everything? And if so, how do I shut it down afterwards? Hmmm, got to look for manual choke, that'd shut it down ok.

Thanks for any help, and in case anyone's interested, I want $100 for the whole kit and kaboodle and am in San Diego.

You can run the outboard without the lu intact, as long as you are force feeding the cooling water of course. It WILL be loud though, so be aware of that, submerging the exhaust in a barrel of water will reduce the noise.

To start it, simply jump the starter with 12 Volts, but as you know, you will need to choke it out to kill it. A manual starter would be ideal.

Great, thanks, I wasn't sure if this thing was self powering/magneto or not.

Good idea of putting in water as a muffler. I knew it would be loud, and didn't plan on running long, just long enough to convince someone it did run so they'd buy it... :)
